Here's an update on what I have been doing since the New Year. I am the Talent and Film coordinator for the revamped Fort Myers Beach Film Festival. http://www.fmbfilmfest.com
I have lots of films to watch. I also received films from the SAG Awards and really want to watch them too. So I guess I should put my netflix on hold for awhile. Can you do that? I decided to do some acting in an hour production of vignettes here on the beach. It's called "A Beachy Love" and my friend Mark List and I will be doing a one-act called, "Open and Shut Marriage" by Bruce Kane. It's a funny one. So I am also learning lines and building a character. One more thing. Classes. I am teaching a class at The Laboratory Theater of Florida called, "Readers Theater". A great class for seniors and other people that don't want to memorize lines, but are interested in the creative process of working on a play. 10 week class on "The Importance of Being Earnest". I also am trying to get together a Film and TV acting class. Still looking for a space closer to me to hold them out. You see the beach in season (now) is always backed up in traffic. If you have to go north on the Island to go over the bridge to Fort Myers than there is a lot of time spent in traffic. So I am trying to get a class going over the South bridge to Bonita and Naples. So as you can see I am keeping busy these days with hopes for a better financial situation coming my way. Yay, Shawn just went out to get Margarita and Taco stuff for today. Sunday is my only day and night to spend with the love of my life. Oh yeah, I also had a great time visiting my son and friends in L.A.. He is such a wonderful young man. It certainly was a treat to participate in my Acting Coach's (Sharon Chatten) class. She is still the best ever. It was also great to spend a bit of time with her, chatting about family and stuff. She is so beautiful in and out. The knowledge I always gain from her is priceless. The pic you see here is at my darling friend's, Stephen Marshall and Michelle Lyons wedding. Vincent and I met Stephen at The American Stanislavsky Theater in NYC in 1979 and the three of us have been friends ever since. You can catch a glimpse of him and his talent as the photographer/traitor in "Steal This Movie". We lived, studied and worked together for many years in NYC. When we all were living in L.A. I met Michelle. Such a beautiful woman and dear heart. I got them together 18 years ago and they finally decided to get married. I also got to visit with my dear friend, Lori in Hollywood. It was all so much fun. Well, back to the drawing board. January is just about gone, but I think I have enough stuff to hold me over this season. Winter in Florida. Jan-April.

A Long Strange Trip it's Been

Wow, I have never had so much trouble putting on a play before "Sisters of the Sea". We started rehearsals in August with a full cast. Little by little, actors began to drop off. Some had day job commitments and others just flaked on us. By the end of October, a few weeks from our first performance we had only 6 actors out of 10. Let's go back a bit, though. We started losing people in August. One of our actors had to have eye surgery so he walked. It was funny because he actually wore a patch on his eye, but after the surgery there would be no patch. Then in late September, when we had already almost two months of rehearsal, our two leads, dropped out. We replaced one with an actor that was actually playing two small parts. He jumped right in and was a wonderful, Captain Jack Rackam (Abrahan De la Rosa). We were still missing a Mary Reed (Lead) and finally someone recommended the wonderful, Lydia Franz. This was the beginning of October, just a month and a half left for her to rehearse, find her character, and get the lines down. She did it. After finally getting our Mary and Jack, we still had to find someone to play the two small roles that Abe had moved up from, and two other characters. Tobias Sampson, James Bonny, Temple Lawes and Henri. We finally got a Henri, played comically by the very talented, Ivy Levinson. Our Temple Lawes finally appeared with just a few weeks to go. Then we split the characters, that were supposed to be played by the same actor. Well ah! Our James Bonny showed up with a week to go, and do you believe I filled the role of Tobias Sampson, just two days before our first show? Thanks to Keri Hendry (Anne Bonny), Abe de la Rosa (Calico Jack), Sherwood Cooper (3 characters), Michael Weeg (4 characters), and last but not least Chaz Maupin (2 characters) for sticking it out through 3 grueling months of rehearsal for only three performances. They are gems. All in all the Kudo's were many, and we had nice size audiences. It finally was a great cast and a great show. Onward and Upwards and C'est la vie!

HI all,
I am sorry I haven't been writing in awhile. I have just been caught up in directing a play, Sisters of the Sea", helping to bring back the Fort Myers Beach Film Festival, teaching classes and working a day job. I am sorry I didn't wish my bro a Happy Birthday online this year. Please be assured that I contacted him personally.
New York City Workshop was great. I had a better turn out then I thought I would have. Vincent was out of town working on two films at once, so I didn't get to see him. I did go visit his wife and boys, though. The boys are getting so big, like their father. They are also very handsome boys.
I stayed with a lovely producer friend of mine. I had a lot of fun and it was great to see the repeat attendees. I had a room full of talent that was a pleasure to teach.
I promise I will get back on here and post on how the play is going. Right now, I have to run off to a meeting for the Fort Myers Beach Film Festival.

Well, The Fort Myers Film Festival went on and off with a bang! A great time was had. I had the opportunity of screening and judging films. It was so much fun, but now back to business. Those in the area do something special for yourself and join my Acting Class on Thursday evenings in Naples. Fort Myers Film Festival

Starting this week! On Wednesday, Gala and the film, "A Swedish Midsummer Sex Comedy". Then on the Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun more films and another black tie Closing Ceremony event at The Broadway Palms Dinner Theater. I will be there most of the time, except for Thursday when I teach my class in Naples. My film, "Awaken The Dawn" will be screening there on Saturday at 1:45pm at The Sydney Berne Davis Art Center. Yay! I'm back on Estero Island, my home. Just two more weeks of recovery and I am back to work. Classes start on March 10th from 6-8pm at Introublezone Studio in the John Mirazzi Nissan bldg. 2nd floor in Naples. I am so looking forward to teaching again. I have missed it so much. Although a couple of coaching gigs have worked out nicely.

Now is the time for kids to prepare for Acting School Auditions across the country. If anyone is interested in Skype Coaching please let me know or write me. Click on Contact on the front page of this website. I hear that coaches are now being able to coach students no matter where they reside. I am fully equipped for this project and if I get enough interest I will set up a paypal button and then proceed to Skype you at a designated time. The cost will also be determined. I will help you prepare for your School entry auditions by getting your two contrasting monologues in tip top shape. Homework will be given after each session, and should be completed by the next session. This will help us move on in a timely matter. You will most likely need at least 5 hourly sessions. Two for each monologue and one for audition practice. Although, more sessions are encouraged for finely tuned monologues. This project will benefit any student looking to get in Acting Schools in NYC, L.A., NC, Orlando, etc. while living in anytown USA.

Recovery

Well, things went really well regarding my hip replacement surgery. It was two weeks ago yesterday and I am right on track recovery wise. Although, my brain is wanting to do much more than I am able to physically yet. Thank God for my family and husband. Everyone is concerned and helping out in any way they can. Mom is the best. I am currently staying with her, because I have lots of stairs to climb and my husband is very busy working. I am quite homesick for the beach, but I know that when I get back there I will be able to once again enjoy it. Long walks and bicycle rides with my man.
Today I will be coaching another very talented young woman. She is working on her monologues for an audition to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. It will be so nice to get back to work again. I am so looking forward to at least coaching. Classes will have to wait until I am able to drive again. Hopefully in the first week of March. Thank you all for your concern, prayers and wishes. Surgery date moved up to Tuesday, Jan 25th. Yikes! A little anxious, a little nervous, and whole lot relieved it will be over sooner. Thanks for all your soothing comments. I'll be back when I get out of the hospital. It's supposed to just be three days. They suggested that I don't bring my laptop due to the fact that I will be out of it most of the time and it could get stolen. Lots of emotions are going through my head these last few days. Can't wait to be back on my feet without pain. For all of you out there with constant or chronic pain. I feel for you. I will now think twice about someone when they aren't very nice. They may be in Pain. I thank god that my pain will be gone. Pain does not look pretty. It's also very hard to stay focused. Ok, Cyberland, I'll be back!

Fort Myers Film Festival

These days you can find me hobnobbing at Intellectualization Mondays. What is that you may ask? Well every Monday night the New Fort Myers Film Festival hosts a night of short film screenings. It is a fun event with music, cocktails and venders selling tasty treats. Tonight one of my students will be singing. I can't wait to hear her. She is a very talented young lady. A couple of weeks ago I was a celebrity Judge. Unfortunately some of the films are really really bad. I am also a submission coordinator that screens and judges the films as they come in. I have watched many many films in the last couple of months. Just watched six last week and only two of them are worth screening. Although on Intellectualization Mondays they like to screen the bad ones also, just to get a rouse out of the audience. The audience members also get to critique the films they watch. The microphone gets passed around. All in all, it's a fun night and I'm looking forward to future screenings. The actual Film Festival will be in March. Now that the holidays are over, everyone is getting back to work and making changes for the new year. Me too! First off, I have to have hip replacement surgery and I am currently waiting on the date. I am hoping to know next week. With a new hip, I am vouching to get back into tip top shape. Much unneeded poundage that needs to be shed. Depending on recovery time, I am hoping to get back to teaching and coaching, sometime next month. Although, it may be March. We'll see. I am so looking forward to walking the pristine beach I currently reside on. I have a homemade hula hoop that is also awaiting my recovery. Not to mention the new Jane Fonda workouts that I am dying to try. Secondly, I am hoping to see the finished product of the film I directed, "The Secret Lives of Karaoke Junkies". Hoping to make the Fort Myers Film Festival deadline the end of this month. Hopefully it will be a good year for us all. The best to all of you in Cyberland. Have a great year!

It was a very nice weekend in Naples. Getting the opportunity to see "Don't Go In The Woods" on a big screen. Camera's flashing everywhere in order to get pictures of my brother. Then staying at the Ritz Carlton, which we all agreed that it was like one of our family trips to Disney World. Waking up to a beautiful day on Sunday. Room service, Yay! Then on we went to our sold out workshop. Vincent was as gracious as ever to his fans, although he does not give any slack to the actors in the workshop. He also promoted my classes on Thursday nights. It was a huge success! I gained many students for my classes. Being with my family is a great feeling. Vincent, Leila, Mom, and Soleil. Even my cousin Meredith that lives in Naples joined us for the film and workshop. For me, there is nothing like spending time and working with family. Thanks, bro, for doing this for me!

I do have some details though. It will be on Sunday, Nov 7th from 10am - 2pm at the Hilton in Naples off 4I. Vincent will just be there in the morning for an hour or so, so don't be late. He is also bringing "Don't Go In The Woods" for a special screening on Saturday, Nov 6th at 8pm. The cost for the workshop is $150. It all should be up on their site soon, so keep checking. There is a twenty student maximum. I am really hoping to attract many locals so that I can fill up my weekly classes.

I never know what ages are going to show up for the workshops, so I never know if I have enough sides. If any of you are playwrights or Screenplay writers. Family Bond

Our family bond helped us with a grueling two day custody trial to keep our darling niece, Soleil under Mom's custody. Toni, Vincent, Erin, Hawk and myself all testified on how well Soleil is doing under Mom's care and how we are Soleil's family. It was a very tiring and trying time. We all broke down in tears when the judge came through for us. Having the family all together was bittersweet. We had a great time, but also a grueling time. Everyone went home now, although Erin is staying a couple of extra days to spend with her sister. Yesterday, we relaxed on the beach. Back to work for me today with a workshop this afternoon and a night shoot tonight. Vincent was a trooper signing almost 150 autographs and pictures for people that worked in the courthouse. He is such a nice movie star. lol! Not to mention a great bro. Always here for his family. Well, back to work, now. Have a great day!

Well, I was heartbroken over the Laboratory Theater of Florida not willing to contract me for Virginia Woolf, but I'm over it now. I will just move on to more experienced professional theater companies or maybe somehow get back into film down here or television. Not much in this area, although Miami has Burn Notice and The Glades. I am currently still directing the Karaoke mocumentary and also coaching and teaching classes. For those of you in this area, I have a workshop coming up on August 28th at the SBDAC from 1-5pm. I always look forward to meeting and working with new people. http://www.sbdac.com. It's only $99. and a chance to work on your auditions. We will be doing cold readings and monologue study. So, come learn how to put your best ability as an actor forward.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf

I have some very disappointing news. I may not be able to play Martha in Virginia Woolf, because I am a professional Union Actor and this is community theater. The board of the Laboratory Theater of Florida voted against an Equity production or bringing me in on a Special Appearance contract unless I can get sponsors to put up the money. Please let me know if any of you know of somebody that may be interested in Sponsoring my work. I have worked very hard already on the role and it is disappointing that I will not be able to utilize my craft. We may postpone the production to later on in the season or may replace it altogether. Life about me is not as exciting as it is for my brother, but I manage to keep very busy. Right now, I am still directing the film, "The Secret Lives of Karaoke Junkies", finished up classes with little ones for JRP, holding class in Naples on Thursday evenings, and working on the character, Martha from, "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf". Oh yeah, and of course spending time with my hubby and pup on this beautiful beach I reside on. We don't have riches, but we do have love. We both work very hard to make a buck. He much more than I. Life can sometimes be frightening and other times so rewarding. Cars break down, rent is hard to come up with each month, bills, bills, bills, but we still plug along knowing that we have more than many do these days. Thank god for this lovely beach. It's free to enjoy. So, whenever you get bogged down with financial worries, just go find a lovely spot of nature to enjoy. You will see how rich you really are.

The Secret Lives of Karaoke Junkies

I am currently directing an Indie Mocumentary on Karaoke singers. It is sooooo much fun! I am sure you all know how much I like Karaoke. I just don't take it as serious as the writer and her friends. Although, I do take directing very serious. It's going well. We have about 15 more scenes to film. Most of the film takes place in local bars. Thanks to Kimber at Jimbers and others. Lots of late night shoots. The actors? Well, some are professionals, others amateurs, and then there are just the normal people. Honestly, a couple of the actors are good, but all in all it is easier to direct the normal people. I mean normal. Actors are a whole different lot. lol!

Documentary style, with solo interviews of cast members speaking their mind about Karaoke and what it means to them, or bashing the drunk girl, and mother of Lula. It starts out with Lula and her friends singing Karaoke at a local bar. They find a flyer announcing a contest in Tampa where they can win a recording deal. They take a 4 hour road trip and clash with the Karaoke locals of the bar that the contest is held. The screenplay is full of characters, the big boob, mom wearing sunglasses and carrying a little Maltese dog, the drunk girl always wanting to sing out of turn, and Karaoke Divas. Lucy Harris wrote the screenplay as well as producing and playing the lead. She called me or txted me, I can't remember. "Would you like to direct my film?" I accepted and am living the lives of Karaoke Junkies.

Hands Across The Sand

On Saturday over 1,000 people joined hands to protest off-shore drilling. They were stretched across the still white sandy beach that I now reside on in the Gulf. Of course, I joined them along with some family members. It was a beautiful day and the pristine beaches and blue water glowed as if to say "Thank You". I am also writing this blog post to let you all know that there are still many Florida beaches that haven't been affected by oil, and possibly may not be. So come down and enjoy our beautiful beaches. We must put a stop to off-shore drilling and find cleaner energy.

The Workshop

The workshop went very well. Much to my surprise, my brother, Vincent showed up to help critique the actors. Well, it wasn't exactly a surprise, he told me he would the night before when I spent the day with him and his gorgeous family. Everyone got a dual critique and information beyond anything they have had before. I so look forward to my NYC Workshop. There is such a nice pool of talent to work with. Also, my wonderful, handsome son even came to join in on the fun. It is so hard when he left the nest, but so nice to visit him in his new habitat. NYC! He's got it down and my entertainment consisted of going to where he worked. Two Jobs! I also have a great friend, Andrea, who is a producer. She also attended the workshop to see one of her scenes read. All in all, it was a very informative and lovely trip. Next year is too far away. If I can get enough interest I will do one again this summer. Yay! New York!

Well hello everyone. Just wanted to share with you a video of a previous NYC workshop. I was very happy to have had my brother join in on the critique of the students. This year is going to be great too. I only have a few seats left, and have enlisted the help of John Pallotta a local Acting Instructor. He has gotten me quite a few students signed up. I've gotten some inquiries about Workshops in other cities. This is what I would need in order to conduct a workshop in a city near you. First off, either you contract me with airfare, accommodations, studio space and transportation plus a 500.00 fee or 1,000.00 internationally. Then you can sell the tickets at whatever price you will need to make your money back. Or, I will need to be guaranteed at least 10 students at $150.00 each paid in advance and help finding a reasonable studio space in your area. I have previously conducted workshops in Asheville, NC, Dallas, TX, Miami and Tampa, FL, Philadelphia, PA, NYC, and San Francisco, CA and Evansville, IN. I love to travel so that will never be an issue. I just need to make it worth my while financially, because it is always worth my while emotionally. I am always guaranteed at least 10 people in NYC, that is why it has become an Annual Workshop. This year we are almost up to the limit. 20 Students. Yikes! Not only does Florida have to worry about being devastated by Hurricanes every summer, now we have a man made problem with oil making it's way down the Gulf. Funny how we haven't heard a word from the big mouth, Sarah Palin during these rough times. "Spill Baby Spill", Palin. Now what the hell you gonna do about it? Sure, blame something else on Obama. That seems to be all you people out there do to cover up your careless spewing of the mouth. Do I sound angry? Well, I am. I live on a beautiful white sandy beach where the economy is already in trouble like the rest of the country. We do not need oil to cover our pristine beaches and affect the wild life of the Gulf and the tourism here. Yesterday, I saw four dolphin frolicking just yards away from me and a huge stingray pop out of the water. Will I be rescuing them in just weeks away? God, I hope not. Not to mention the beautiful birds of all sorts that have made the beach their home. If we don't get the effects of the spill, somewhere in Florida will. This is an unfortunate reality and caused by man. We do not have enough knowledge of the devastation that oil drilling entails. Although, we are learning the hard way. The realistic, contemporary play, "Talk Radio" stands out in the midst of surrounding local theater's classical choices. Opening Night went off a bit shaky at the beginning, but got back on track and provided a very entertaining show. Friday night was flawless and Saturday's energy was a bit low. Coming from a more professional background community theater has its ups and downs. Sets and lighting are made due with what you have to work with in the basement of the theaters. My main focus was on the actors, and they all delivered much more than their lines. I am very lucky to have the focused, energetic, local experienced actor, J Mitchell Haley as Barry Champlain. He drives the train with humor, and rage as his producer, Dan, (Steven Pawlowski) Assistant Producer, Linda, (Mahli Howell) Operator, Stu, (Don Manley) and engineer, Spike, (Kevin Igar), and the Callers (Dan McWeeny, Angel Stokey, Elliott Ashton, Cash DeCuir, and Abe De La Rosa) all give him the necessary fuel for "His Show".

We have had a pretty good turnout so far and many many audience members stuck around at the end of the show to congratulate the actors and myself. Kudo's were expressed as "Great Show", "Very Entertaining", and even "You should take this on the road" were just some of the nice feedback we received from a local audience. Many of them unknown to me, since this is my first project with The Laboratory Theater of Florida. All in all, I am very proud of my actors and the great show they provide. As an Acting Coach I wish I had more time to work with some of the weaker actors, but rehearsal time is just that and it's impossible to teach a entire technique in the time span provided. It's not over yet. Three more shows including tonight. Here's to "The smell of the greasepaint, and the roar of the crowd". I'm loving it!

First Wedding Anniversary

Hey all! Been married a year now to the most wonderful man in the world. Shawn Halladay. My Ol' beachdude. We went out to dinner last night since I am rehearsing tonight. Had a wonderful time! Life is sweet being married for a change. LOL. It had been a very long run as a single mom. Yes, for those of you that don't think I raised my child on my own, I did. Yes, I am lucky to have family that helped out throughout the years, although my son always lived with me. He has grown into a very secure, handsome, sensitive, intellectual, young man of 22. Not to mention the two beautiful daughters that I gained from my marriage. Chantal and Alicia, both in their twenties also. Both bright, gorgeous, and loving. Life is good!

Hello everyone out there in cyberland. Rehearsals started for "Talk Radio" and it is going well. Very exciting figuring out all that it takes to put on a play production. Lighting, sound, blocking, scene design, characterization and the whole Mise En Scene. It's so much fun for me. I love directing and after this one I am going to be directing another play here on the beach. Although, right now it's all about Talk Radio. I can't get over my connection with Eric Bogosian. A bit nervous about the fact that he may know that I am directing his play. Not only is he a friend of my brothers, but his son is a friend of my son. Small world. I am hoping to do his play justice. It is a realistic play and with a small budget. I am trying like hell to do the best we can with a minimal set. All in all, everyone cast is doing a great job, already. They are bringing some nice creativity to the table. This is a big cast of eleven. It helps a lot that the actors are experienced on the stage, so I don't have to start from scratch with them all. The play is very different from the film. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Bogosian's script. You should take a read of it sometime.

Life Goes On

Well, there went January. Jeez, the time is flying. All quiet in the D'Onofrio/Halladay household. I am getting ready physically and mentally to endure the rehearsal period for Talk Radio. So, looking forward to it. Can't stop thinking about all the devastation in Haiti. I have made donations and hope you all do to. I was in the Northridge Earthquake back in the 90's. It was like a war zone. Our condo was inhabitable and we had to move away from beautiful Calabasas to deeper in the San Fernando Valley. It was very scary. Especially all the aftershocks, but not even close to the death toll and devastation in Haiti. It all sure makes one think about how bad life can actually get, and how lucky we are to be just enduring a recession. Life is too short, to ponder on the bad luck we have all had to live with in the last 10 years. Lets move forward by helping others in need and redirecting our lifestyles to fit in with the times. It's so nice to have my family with us this month. My step-daughters, Alicia and Chantal and my son Hawk. Music fills the house along with unconditional love and care. So nice to be able to enjoy the kids before I have to put my nose back to the grindstone. A lot of work on the play, Talk Radio awaits me in February. I got a great cast and am so excited about putting up Eric Bogosian's play for March. It's so funny that I was asked to direct this play, with Eric working with my brother, and Eric's son befriending my son in NYC. It's a small small world. Life is starting out good in 2010. Still just getting by, but at least doing what I love and having my loved ones near. It's all about a good family base that supports you in your endeavors. Without my husband and kids support, It would be much harder for me to find the strength and time to do what I got to do. Love is great. I wish the same for all my readers. New Year 2010

Wow! Things are already looking up professionally in the new year. I was asked to direct, Eric Bogosian's play, Talk Radio for a local theater company in Fort Myers for March 11th opening. Then another play here on the beach in April. My classes are going well with a nice size attendance and my marriage is wonderful. Also, got to start planning for my annual New York City Workshop in June. My son will be here next week for ten whole days. Wooo Weee! Can't wait. Lots of music will be heard throughout our little beach shack from my stepdaughters singing, my son on guitar, and my husband on piano. I am holding auditions for "Talk Radio" this Sunday at 4pm at the Sydney Berne Davis Art Center in Fort Myers. So local talent please come out. We are looking for 3 or 4 women and 7 or 8 men. Looking forward to finding my talent. Hope you all have a prosperous new year. In the acting process we don't make it happen, we let it happen, but in life and business you must make it happen. On Thanksgiving day, I heard the funniest story that I've heard in a long time. We had the pleasure of having my mom's longtime friend, Loretta from Quebec feasting with us. She used to work in a gift shop on the ships that docked in Miami. I believe that is where my mother and stepfather met her. Anyway, when she first started working for the cruise line she hardly spoke or understood a word of English. A passenger walked up to her counter in the store and asked if she sold condoms there. She had no idea what the word meant, and figured it had to do with Condominiums. So she told the man that they would be entering the port of Miami in twenty minutes and that they have them all over the beach! The man gave her the strangest look, she said, and walked out of the store. We all laughed so hard. Hope you do too.

How do we celebrate Thanksgiving on the beach? Well, the same as most of you all in the North, South, East and West. A family gathering with Turkey and all the works except we are wearing strapless dresses, shorts and tank tops. The men look so dashing in their Tommy Bahamas and Quiksilver Shorts. We all talk about how thankful we are to have each other. Mom and her girlfriend Sara served Thanksgiving to the homeless vets yesterday. Whenever I think about those families that live in the woods of Ft. Myers, I become even more thankful that I am able to have a roof over my head and food in my mouth. So lets all pray for the less fortunate and give thanks for what we have.

I am currently working on a new short film. I have some great people involved. It is about a character I made up years ago, named Pinky Traz. It will be a mocumentary about her life. She is a blogger and soon I will be providing a link to her blog. I hope you all enjoy her as I have creating her. Many of her blogs you will probably recognize from about four years ago. It will be fun recreating them and one day you will be able to actually view them. There is also a band involved called, The Flying Rodents. I have been making up fictitious characters for years so as not to name the real people in the real scenarios I have written about in the past. Health Care Reform

I was speaking with a woman I know about health insurance and she was worried that if the bill passed that she would lose her insurance. I asked how much she paid and she replied with, "Well we only pay part of it, which is 500.00". "That's part of it, jeez", I interrupted. She said that it normally costs over 900.00 a month. Now, that is nice that this person can afford such insurance, but there are millions of people that need that kind of money to put a roof over their heads, and food in their mouths. I wouldn't want her to lose her insurance, but I would like that people have a choice in the matter. Not one of the famous people I know including actors, musicians, producers, and directors are against passing this bill. Why? Because they are aware that the majority of our country is not as fortunate as they are. They are willing to give back to the public that helped make them wealthy to begin with. Why can't others such as Lawyers, Doctors (well my doctor is for the bill), wealthy business men and woman, bankers, etc. feel the same way. If it wasn't for the public wanting their services they would not be where they are today. Just a thought to all of you out there that are afraid of change. Change is tough. I always looked at it as a caterpillar that goes through it's metamorphis. Struggling in it's cocoon, but then emerging as a beautiful, free, healthy butterfly. Please give this option a chance.

NIFF gala

Well, the gala was a hoot. Camera's flashing as you walked down the short red carpet. News stations interviewing people. Everyone dressed in their best gala attire. Cuties walking around with trays of hor'deurves and free drinks for the VIP's. Which included me. lol. It was nice to have a film screening there, so I had something to talk about other than being known as Vincent D'Onofrio's sister. The best part of it all was the film, "The Cove". A riveting documentary about the slaughter of Dolphin in Japan. It was so sad to watch, but one shouldn't turn a blinds eye to it. The film has already made a difference, but there is still much work to be done to save these exquisite creatures. It actually reminded me of the holocaust, that's how devastating it was to watch. K, on a happier note. It was a good time. For those of you that live in the area, don't forget my film, The Chocolate Fetish is screening on Sunday at 245pm at Silverspot Cinema in Mercato.

VIP Gala

It's been years now since I live in Florida, that I've been invited to a black tie event. Looking through my gowns stashed away at my mom's house was very interesting. I don't know why I possibly thought I could get my new over 50 bod in anyone of them. They were size 2. I could wear them as sleeves. So off I went to find a gown. I had my eye on one at my friend's store that I mentioned on here a month or so ago. I believe it was the one I was holding up in the pic. It was still there, so my mom bought it for me as a Birthday present. Now shoes. Oui Vei! Being famous on foodstamps (just kidding about the foodstamps, but close) you have to make due with what you have. So is it silver or black heels? I'll bring both. Thank god jewelry is one size fits all. I have to go teach the kiddies in Naples that afternoon, so I thought it would be a good excuse to hang with my childhood friend, Fawn, until the event that evening. She owns a beauty shop called First Street Salon. She will do my hair and makeup. Thank you Fawn. The event is the opening night gala of The Naples International Film Festival. Coctail party and a film called, "The Cove". Time to make the mustang shine for the valet. Just hope I can get out of the car gracefully. lol. Wow, my ticket says Orchestra Center Front. Not bad for a famous person's sibling. Actually, I do have a film there and I am on the board of advisories, so that may have something to do with the invite. All in all it should be an interesting evening as Naples plays Hollywood for the night. I hope I have pics for my next post. That's if I don't forget the camera.

I am so excited to announce that a film I produced and acted in five years ago, will be screened at the new Naples International Film Festival. Sunday, November 8th. This was a collaborative art with the writer/director Lis Anna. We are so proud of our little film.

The Chocolate Fetish is a Telluride Indie Fest and Key West Indie Fest Short Film Winner. It was also screened at The River Run Film Festival in Winston/Salem, NC and Cannes Film Market.

Family Affairs

I don't usually get into my brothers affairs, but everyone seems really up in arms about Law and Order: CI. I don't know what the production company is saying, but I did hear on the radio that they are saying that they gave Vincent and Kathryn the boot. All I know is that during a family vacation my brother told us that he wasn't renewing his contract. That he wanted to move on from the character, Goren. He was very grateful to be able to build such a wonderful character, but it was time. He also said that CI will be bringing him and Erbe back for special episodes in the future. Jeff Goldblum is doing a great job, and I wish him the best of luck.

Also, for those of you that have family members that need looking after but you can't afford in home care, there is a website called, "Friendly Jingle", its a group of folks who make daily calls and check up on the elderly and give them someone to talk to and something to look forward to every day.. its about $1 a day.

Welcome October! Whew! Made it through another September. The hottest and slowest, tourist wise, in Florida. Well, we made a mistake moving into a house that was promised to us as a nice place to live. Jeez, if you call 90 degrees and high humidity inside with three air conditioners feeding FPL, nice, or using a plunger after washing dishes, brushing your teeth, showering, nice, or blow drying your hair in the kitchen because of burnt out outlets in the bathroom and bedrooms, nice, well then you would have a hey day in this ol' beach shack. So we are moving again. We were going to rent to own, but the owners came back with a very unrealistic price. Yeah, maybe after we fixed it up! No, it's not on the gulf side, because we know you pay for that. It is situated near the back bay where a high rise condo blocks any view you might have of water. Except for the lake that grows in your front yard after just a daily storm. Yikes! My Mustang! The growling and barking by three big, mean, dogs hounds you every day and night. If the dogs aren't barking than their owner is screaming at them. Not to mention the darkness that breeds depression. Even the dog is depressed. NICE! Anyway, moving sucks, but it will be nice to live on a quieter block and in a place with all new fixtures and cabinets, and, Yes, central air. Well if you think this is venting, you may be right, but I see it as recalling two months of hell. So, welcome sweet October, new job, new place, cooler weather and another year older. Well, that part is to be questioned. Looking forward to nesting again in our little bit of Paradise.

Gulfshore Playhouse

Just auditioned for two roles in two different plays for the Gulfshore Playhouse in Naples. Went well, but won't know for a couple of weeks. I will keep you all posted. Their season starts with "Honour", "Beau Jest", and "A Dolls House". See if you can quess which roles I auditioned for. I am also involved in their Outreach Program for the Schools. I start teaching on September 28th. Little ones in the second grade. Teaching them Improvisation and Theater games. It's all about teaching acting to kids that involve literature, writing, and research. Sounds like fun!

There's a cute little dress shop on the beach here that a friend of mine runs. It's called "Beach Girls Boutique" and it has the cutest clothes, lovely jewelry and very different handbags that I have ever seen here in Florida. Those of you in the Fort Myers area need to check it out. It's housed in a pink building right on Estero Blvd next to Hooters. It's got unique dresses and shirts. I love the new press style of clothing that is housed there. Something for every woman. Especially for the young at heart. Just my style.

Family Vacation; A Thrill Ride

Every year I look forward to our family vacation. This stop, Disney World and Universal Studios. Unless I go to NYC or Utah, I hardly ever get to see my brother and sister and their families, so I look forward to it. My favorite ride is The Rock-n-Roll Roller Coaster, featuring Aerosmith on the radio as you drive with them to their concert in L.A.. This was a thrilling roller coaster vacation as we climbed in and rode many roller coasters in Universal Studios. Even Mom loves roller coasters. I sat one out, but mom didn't. The kids always want to go again and again. I stop when my stomach reaches my throat. Good Idea, huh? This year a special treat was in store for us. We got to meet George Lucas. He and his companion approached my brother, saying they love the show. He was as excited as the kids. We were all star struck. It was so cool. Mr. Lucas is an icon and meeting him and his family was as thrilling as the roller coasters.

Our little island has been on the national news lately. Our town manager, Scott Janke got fired without cause this week. Word leaked out that his wife, Anabel is a porn star. I met Anabel and she never spoke of her career. I wonder why? I was telling her that I was an actor and acting instructor here on the beach, but no mention of her successful adult acting career. Hmmm! Would have loved to have her join the class. LOL. A method acting porn star. Now that would be a first. Well, maybe not. Anyway, I don't believe that her husband should have gotten fired over his wife's career in porn, but I do understand that dinner and other social gatherings with the Senator and his wife would be weird now that the cat is out of the bag. The town council and mayor say that they didn't fire him over his wife's career, but to avoid publicity taking him from his work. UH, would it have escalated this far if they didn't fire him? Anyway, as they say. "Any publicity is good publicity". So, I am sure Anabel's fame is escalating as also our little island has made the map. Just hope it doesn't hurt tourism, because that is how our family friendly Island survives. Oh well, so much for a dirty little secret.

The workshop this year went very well. It was great to see and work with previous attendees and new people. The range of ages and experience was also very nice as an instructor to work with. I would like to thank Gina Bonati (Actress, Instructor, dancer) for her great input and presence at this years workshop. This year we had of course our fabulous over fifty gals, Philamena, Betsy, Cheryl, and Judy, our math teacher, Cristen, four actresses in training, two working actors, and a writer, Ash. Special thanks to Matt for his time taping and taking pics and to Heather for finding the space and helping me out. I had a great time in NYC visiting family and friends. After which, I flew up to Buffalo, to meet my sister-in-law, her husband, and my four new nieces and nephews. Also, not to mention how lovely it was to spend time with my mother-in-law, MaryAnn, and her significant other, John, and of course, my baby girl, Alicia. Special thanks to my mom for caring for Killer while we were gone. So, looking forward to next years workshop. This time I think I'll spend a bit more time in NYC. Although, the time factor actually saved me from doing needless shopping.

Pub crawling on Duvall Street, joining Hemingway's ghost for cocktails at Sloppy Joes, and visiting his house, and the Southernmost point. Of course, not to forget where Tennesee Williams wrote some of his finest plays, and the fine old mansions that made it through the worst of Hurricanes. This is what makes up Key West. The last time I was there I was a mere 16 year old. I remember that is was always a party. We took the Key West Express right from our back bay and from there it was coctail history, informable and fun. We even got Mardi Gras beads.

Last Sunday, February, 22nd, 2009 in front of family and friends, I became Mrs. Shawn Halladay. Well, actually Elizabeth Jean D'Onofrio Halladay. Not only is that a mouthful, but it will cover the whole Marquee. Just kidding, my stage name will remain the same. Only now everyday will be a D'Onofrio Halladay (pronounced Holiday). Merry Wedding to those of you that get the inside joke. The weather was beautiful and for high season the traffic here on the beach was light. It was great seeing friends and family. Then on to Key West for our Honeymoon. What a great place to pub crawl, and I mean crawl. All in all, it was a wonderful week, and Shawn and I are so happy to continue our lives together.

Classes, Coaching and Workshops

Despite the economy it had actually been a good year for my classes and private coaching. Classes on Fort Myers Beach are fun and educational. We are currently working on scenes that we will actually perform at the local Coffeehouse.
I am also currently experiencing the great opportunity of coaching teens on their monologues for entrance auditions into Colleges and Universities. "Break-a-leg" to Krysten Tapp on her upcoming audition for entry into Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. She is a wonderfully talented young lady.
Its time to start preparation for the annual NYC Workshop that I will most likely conduct in June this year. My son has met and worked with many young actors that are interested in attending the workshop and I am looking forward to meeting and working with them and of course instructing the wonderful and talented ladies of the Yahoo group that attend annually.
I am also ecstatic to say that one of my workshop students, Heather Bunch, is really doing well developing an acting career for herself in NYC.

This summer I will also be instructing a preteen and teen class in Fort Myers. So anyone that is interested in any of the above please contact me through this website and come and join in on the education and fun.

Well, the holidays are behind us and we are living 2009. We will soon have a new President and a renewed hope for the future. It is really sad though, that the world is in turmoil and it has affected each and everyone of us personally. Sometimes we tend to ignore what it going on in the world until it hits home. What a wonderful family I have and I am very grateful. I spoke to Toni as she stressed through this successful charity. She is a great person and as you can see very beautiful. Yes, its that time of year again and I am sure we are all stressing and hoping that our finances will heal themselves after all the gift buying. I am excited that my son will be spending Christmas with us this year. Woo Wee! I didn't do much xmasey (not a real word) decorating this year, because it just seems funny to put up wintry stuff in sunny Florida. So I just opted for a small fake table top tree. Such a change from chopping down a real one in the mountains of North Carolina. Well, as much as I miss the North Carolina mountains and the hopes of a White Christmas, I am very happy to be celebrating the Holidays on the beach. Where the only winter gear needed is a hoodie and a sand shovel. Looking forward to the change promised in the years to come and hoping you all have Merry Holidays and cheer. Ah yeah! Margaritas instead of Hot Toddies. Mmmm!

Coming Down

The play was great. Kudos to Fay Graetz for her wonderful play that gave us actors work and lots of fun. The venue at The Purple Heart Theatre was a perfect place to do a play about a boatyard. So I would like to Thank, Carl Conley, President of The Island Arts Foundation for letting us utilize his theater. I would also like to give Kudos to the actors, Mark List, Steve Vallo, Dan McWeeney and Keri Hendry for the wonderful job they all did to make the play, "On The Hard" a success. Special thanks to all the people of Ft. Myers, Naples, Cape Coral and Fort Myers Beach for attending. We had big houses for the run. For those of you that sent flowers and made the trek across the U.S. to see the play, Wow, thanks for your support of my career. Well, coming down from a play is a bit daunting as the roar of the greasepaint wanes, but the warm sunshine, sunsets, and the gulf waters that can be seen from my home will always nurture my soul sound. How can one not move on when they live in Paradise?

I am honored to have represented the Arts at the dedication ceremony of The Island Sand Paper's new Purple Heart Theater. The special guest was Senator Bill Nelson's wife, Grace. She is a beautiful person inside and out. I had the opportunity of attending a tea with her and other fine ladies of the community. She spoke of all the third world countries she has visited and the rewarding insights she gained by connecting with tribal women. She spoke of all the crops being wasted here in Florida and how she is trying desperately to utilize the waste to feed the hungry. Like her name, she is full of Grace and compassion for the needy, not only in this country but in the world. She spoke of government uniting as the only way to clean up the economy and what we as Americans are facing. She has hope for the future and spoke highly of Bill Clinton and everything he has done for the world, also. I came home that day, so proud to be a woman in America. Even though Life is not the best for us all right now, we are still able to stand above many countries that only know life as struggle. I am so grateful to be able to put food on my families table tomorrow, and to give thanks every day. Happy Thanksgiving!

The play, the play, the play! Oui Vei!

The play, the play, the play. That is all that is going through my head these days. Well, besides the 30 something pages of lines that I have yet to put to memory. Have about 15 pages so far, hidden in my ol' noggen. I had to replace my director, so I ended up directing myself, as well as playing the leading lady role. Everythings cool though. Well, except for some obvious stress that I am venting here. On The Hard is an original piece by my friend Fay Graetz. I met her in a screenwriting class and had the opportunity to read for her play with an audience. I really loved the idea and told her that I would work on getting the play out there. Good for my word, I did. Rewrites, rewrites and rewrites abound. Now I am happy to say that we have ourselves a very interesting, sometimes funny, dramatic piece. Besides the two leads, there are four characters, that only by living on the beach could I help my actors develop. Here's a little blurb about it.

On the Hard is a two act play about a husband and wife (couple?) infected by a dream to cruise the Caribbean. They’ve sold everything and moved aboard a fixer-upper in a backwater boat yard in Florida. It is a story about the ebb and flow of wanderlust, love and commitment.

Life is good with a new president, a play in the works, my classes filling up and a wonderful man that supports my endeavors. So if any of you happen to be down here in the tropics, the production dates are as follows:

November 28, 29, 30 and December 5, 6, 7

As you must know by now. I love Halloween. This year I did a spoof on Sarah Palin. The button I am showing says, "Women for Obama", as I winked and blurted out "You betcha"! It was a hoot. It was a fun time at "The Veranda" that afternoon. The Veranda is two old houses put together that were built in the late 1800's. What a beautiful historic restaurant downtown Fort Myers. It is owned by a friend of mine whom he and his son also own the Rib City Grill franchise. If you remember, my sister has two in Utah, along with my brother who owns one. The people that gather there are Lawyers, Judges, Business owners, Mayors and mostly Republicans. Well, that's Florida. Even Joe Biden has been spotted at The Veranda. Why, am I plugging the Veranda, well, I just moved on from a two-year bartending gig there. I will miss all my customers, but I am now happy to say that I am joining a group of creative artist at The Island Sand Paper and The Island Arts Foundation. So starting monday you can find me working away at promoting my play and other festivities at The Island Arts Foundation Building on Fort Myers Beach. Ok, in the last four years I have inquiries from two people that were trying to reach the writer, director Beverly D'Onofrio (Riding in cars with Boys). How can the name Elizabeth have anything to do with the name, Beverly. Hmmm! Well, I am honored to be confused with such a great woman. Although it seems weird to me that the two people that made this mistake reside in the same circles. So for those of you confused by the names Beverly and Elizabeth. I am Elizabeth D'Onofrio, known mostly for my Instruction of The Method and character roles in independent films. Not to mention the sister of actor, Vincent D'Onofrio. The best to you, Beverly. ON THE HARD

I am currently producing a stage play called, "On The Hard". It's about people that live on their boats in a marina, and we are going to perform it here at The Purple Heart Theater, on the beach. Wooo! Weee! I'm so excited! I'm finally "back in the saddle". Well, actually "riding the bow". That may not be a quote, but I like it, so now it is. I am also going to play the lead in it, well, that's if Equity approves my Special Appearance Contract application. Oh God, got to get that done. So, right now I am working on all the paperwork and with the writer on rewrites. Her name is Fay, and she is a very talented woman and friend. So, being that Fay the hurricane didn't actually hurt us much on the beach, she came in a form of a playwright to reak havoc on the Art Community here. Just Kidding. It will be a "works in progress", and that is even more exciting. I'll tell you all more about it as it comes into fruition.

Hurricanes and Politics

Its been quite scary down here in Florida the last couple of months. Thank God we have been spared the horror of devastating hurricane hits. Unfortunately other states on the Gulf have not been that lucky. I am so saddened by anyone that has to reap the dangers of being in these horrific storm's path. I am also saddened that the election in November is escalating racism. I am appalled by the racist emails I have been receiving from people that call themselves conservative. I really believed that this election would prompt a growth in the way people think about gender and race. Oh god, and then enter Sarah Palin a man in a woman's body. Can you believe that in a new millennium our country is still controlled by man's beliefs? In a man's world having an attractive woman that thinks like a man for Vice President is their way of supporting women's rights. Ugh. Thank god there are men and women out there that see right through her and support the rights of women that our grandmothers, mothers and ourselves have fought hard for. Living in a free country means to me that a government will not control what I choose to do with my body, what I choose to write, create, display or speak about, and what I choose to believe in. These things are very important to me and my family. Other issues including health care, the war, the economy and oil drilling off the beautiful coastline I now reside on, keeps my political beliefs on the left. As we have seen by the past natural disasters, Mother Nature holds no prejudice. Just something to think about.

The warm gulf waters tickle my feet
dreaming of other lands
Other worlds where friends
have come and go
Does the past ever feel me,
can you all ever see me
searching for postcards
in the sand
Life constantly renewing itself
from hurricane forces
pain and anger subsided
love has reached me
rejuvinating my soul
Pain always came from love lost,
human error, and misunderstandings
Friendships waned but never lost
Found in the reflection of the sun
off the clear blue waters
that now lay sound in
the Gulf of Mexico
