Gearing up for NYC

Whooo Weee! Just a week away from the annual NYC workshop. I am so excited to spend time in NYC and see my son, my brother and his family. Yes, I have stayed quit and it has been over a month since I have had the long slim enemy invade my lungs. I am doing great. I bought bikes for myself and my boyfriend on his birthday last month and have been actually riding it. Well, a bit anyway. Last weekend I rode to Hooters and had two whiskeys and then rode back. Hey, we all need incentive. It was also the first time I had had a cocktail in a month. Too hard to quit smoking while drinking. Life is grand these days. I am starting local classes next month and have met some very creative people on the beach that I will soon be collaborating with on new projects. There is still a couple of spaces left for the workshop next weekend, so please see my workshop page if your interested. I have been auditioning and talking with casting directors on what they like to see at an audition, and can't wait to share my knowledge from them and experience with you all. Hope to meet and work with more of you soon.

Hey you're doing a grand job there Elizabeth. 'Sfunny; I bought a bicycle a couple of weeks ago and riding it makes me feel like I am 14 again (looooooong time ago.)

Have you ever read "The Smoking Diaries" by British playwright Simon Gray? Hmmmm - I'm not sure you would find them useful or not, but they might make you laugh.

Have a lovely time in the Big City with your family. (I'm strongly resisting the temptation to suggest you persuade your brother to follow your giving-up-the-fags example.)

Dear Elizabeth-
Congratulations on the no smoking-
Fantastic job-
Life seems very good for you, a new boyfriend and plans for classes in Florida-
Many things to look forward to when you get back-
Have fun in the city and getting to see your son and your family-
My cousin is a big Yankees fan, and because this is the last season at the old stadium, they are giving tours when the team is playing out of town-
She went last weekend and they get to go in the dugout and the locker room, she also went to Chelsea Market and Little Italy and shopping, of course-
She had a great time-
Now the workshop will be successful and you will have a great time as well-
Regi

Hi Elizabeth,
I am so happy for you that the quitting is going so well. It's great that you and your boyfriend are going bike riding. Excercising is so much fun. I love to go walking. I do at least 45-60 minutes a day after work either at the walking track near my house or in my neighborhood. On the weekends I try to break it up throughout the day and get at least 2 hours in. That with working in the yard and running around in general I don't have to feel guilty when I indulge in my favorite wicked pleasure...CHOCOLATE:)
I hope the workshop goes really, really well for you and that you have a wonderful visit with your brother and family. Enjoy!
All best,
Ginny

Congratulations on getting the nicotine monkey off your back. Also, hurrah, for whiskey soaked bike rides. (Everything in moderation...even moderation.) Much success with your workshops. Have fun with your family.

Peace,
Tami

Oh, Gigi, I read your comment just after finishing a large bar of fruit and nut chocolate! If I'd had two, I would have had both!

If it's as hard to give up smoking as it is chocolate, you are to be doubly congratulated, Elizabeth. Well done. And good luck with the workshop.

Wow, Elizabeth sounds like you are doing really great ! Glad you are have some success with not smoking. Getting the bikes is good no matter what.

Hope you bring some sunny weather to NYC. Here in the midwest, we have had lots of rain. It all goes to the northeast from here. They need some of your dry weather from Florida. I am sure ready to see the sun for awhile. Talked to my son in California today. He is east of LA and the weather is getting pretty warm there.

Well, I hope you have a full workshop. I am sure that everyone will appreciate your insight and experience.

Glad you can combine your trip with a visit with your family. I'm sure that makes it even more enjoyable. Have fun :)

Val,
That is so funny! My weakness is peanut butter cups. Just writing about them makes me want to run to the store and buy some. I was really feeling guilty yesterday for falling off the "food wagon" so to speak, and then someone from the NYC office at work who I haven't seen in ages came into my office yesterday and said,"Goodness,Ginny you lost so much weight, you are really getting skinny". This coming from her means I must be getting skinnier than I thought because she is a "bone" she is so thin. So I just came back from the track and I really am going to resist the chocolate temptation. I think I will go out and do some gardening instead:)
And yes, I think smoking is much harder to give up than chocolate. I have watched too many people try to quit and not succeed and I am VERY proud of you, Elizabeth for sticking with it. You keep up the good work girl!
Have a great weekend all!

Hi Rita,
Just read your comment about the weather. I have seen all the horrendous weather in the midwest lately and I always wonder if any of our group has been affected. I live in NJ about 10 miles from NYC and we have had a lot of rain too and wind. It seems that definitely every Friday it rains and last Monday we had a out of season nor'easter and a LOT of flooding. Right now it is beautiful out but they are calling for thunderstorms tonight and all day tomorrow. That puts a crimp in my weekend plans, I am tentatively going to a historical society meeting tomorrow, but is up along the Delaware River on the NJ side but it seems the weather gets even worse up there. Something keeps telling me to sit tight at home and tell my friend I am not going with him. I am ashamed to say I am terribly afraid of thunderstorms and flash flooding. I could never survive through what you are going through in the Midwest with the tornados. Stay safe!
I hope also that Elizabeth has a very successful workshop next weekend. If it hadn't been for holiday weekend plans I would have been going for sure. Next year though I will be going, I am going to clear my work schedule and not let anything stop me. I know a workshop would be very beneficial to me because I still have writers block with my short story. Too much on my mind from the corporate world I think. Oh well....
Have a good weekend!

Gigi,
Yes,this has been a cold wet spring here in the midwest. Today it rained again but the Memorial weekend looks nice. I hope that Elizabeth has great weather for her trip. Looks like they are going to have a nice weekend too.

Elizabeth,I hope the sunshine gives your workshop lots of enthusiasm and creative energy.

I have been reading all the wonderful comments on the group posts about the workshop. It sounds like a great experience. I am already starting to save my money for next year.
